What to read next -- Poll Results!

First of all, thanks to all the people who voted this past week - this was Fantasy-Matters' first poll of all time, and it turned out great.  The winner of the what to read next poll was Robin Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice.  I'll be heading out to a local bookstore later today to pick it up, and from what I've heard, I won't be disappointed.

Thanks again!

Fantastically Fun Fridays: June 17, 2011

Happy Friday everyone!  If you haven't voted in Adam's poll about what he should read next, you should take a minute to do that before your weekend starts--I would encourage you to vote for Scalzi's book, but that would be such a tacky attempt to rig the poll that I better not do it....We will be announcing the winner on Monday, so get your votes in before then!

Also, special thanks go to Kat Howard, Aaron Miller, and forum contributor srussell for their great suggestions for this week's fun links:

Big Boys Don't Fly: Making The Cape

The CapeI was at the beach with my two sons in late July of 2010 when I got a call from Joe Hill:

“Hey, you feel like adapting my short story, "The Cape," for IDW?”

And that was it. More was said, but that’s basically how it all got started.

The Unexpected Fantastic

AmelieIn Amélie, the French film by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the heroine stands at the back of a café, awash in gold light and self-imposed invisibility. She is too shy and too quiet. She lets the man she loves walk away without declaring herself, or even giving him her name. She is on the edge of tears. She turns into a sheet of water and collapses into a puddle, splashing across the tiled floor.

Fantastically Fun Fridays: June 10, 2011

It was a hot week here at Fantasy Matters! (quite literally--the temperature hit 101 on Tuesday, which was way too hot for me, thank you very much)  Before you break for the weekend, remember to head over to the forums and help our webmaster, Adam, pick the next fantasy book that he reads.  Also, here are some of the fun things that we've found floating around the web this week:
